DraftKings has made an official ruling on arguably the biggest scandal in daily fantasy sports history.

On NFL Wild Card weekend, Jade Roper, who was a contestant on The Bachelor Season 19, appeared to have defied the odds en route to winning DraftKings’ prestigious $1 million fantasy football contest. As it turns out, Roper colluded with her husband, Tanner Tolbert, who she met on Season 2 of Bachelor in Paradise, and violated DraftKings’ stated rules. Tolbert is also a known avid DFS player.

DraftKings recently released the following statement:

“DraftKings has decided to update the standings for several contests. All customers affected by the updated standings will be notified directly. It is our general policy not to comment further on such matters.”

Roper and Tolbert each submitted the maximum of 150 entries in the contest with very little differentiation in the core player pool. In simple terms, they were able use their core group of players to build 300 unique lineups vs. the 150 that the contest rules dictated.

Despite their insistence that they worked solo, DraftKings deemed them to have directly violated the rules of play. The identity of the new $1 million winner is unknown, but his attorney is pleased with the ruling.

“We appreciate the way DraftKings looked into the contest, according to their rules,” New Jersey attorney Alan Milstein said (via Darren Rovell). “My client is thrilled that he has been informed that he is the winner.”

If you’re interested in the details of this story, Rovell broke the situation down shortly after it happened. That story can be found here.
