It seems odd to be typing this in mid-September, but nonetheless, it’s now officially U.S. Open week.

Golf’s second major of the re-worked 2020 PGA Tour schedule tees off on Thursday at Winged Foot Golf Club in upstate New York.

Absent from this year’s field will be two-time U.S. Open champ Brooks Koepka, who withdrew from the tournament due to lingering hip and knee injuries, and Scottie Scheffler, another promising young talent.

Before moving into the list of betting odds for the tournament, here are a couple of interesting notes:

  • Tiger Woods, typically the most popular golfer on the betting markets for majors, is currently sitting at +4500. If history is an accurate indicator of how things will go, sportsbooks around the country are going to have a huge liability on Woods. So much for the “Tiger Effect.”
  • For the first time in recent memory Rory McIlroy is not among the Top-5 contenders to win, according to the betting odds.
  • Defending champion Gary Woodland is currently sitting at +8500.
  • Unlike “normal” years, the field will consist only of players who are exempt from qualifying.

With that being said, here are the current betting odds to win the 2020 U.S. Open.

Colin Morikawa (+1750)

Morikawa his first career major and the first major of the 2020 PGA Tour season (the PGA Championship) with an amazing Sunday performance. The 23-year-old is now unquestionably one of the premier golfers in the world and will likely add several more major championships to his resume in the near future.

Morikawa’s accuracy off the tee and his skill with his long irons make him a serious threat to win at Winged Foot. Great value here.

Xander Schauffele (+1500)

Schauffele is a rising star on the PGA Tour with the look of a future multi-major winner. I personally love how his game matches up with Winged Foot, and expect no worse than a Top-10 finish for the 26-year-old.

Justin Thomas (+1400)

Thomas is the model of consistency and a threat to win every tournament he enters. Enough said.

Jon Rahm (+900)

It’s only a matter of time before Rahm wins his first career major. Will it happen at the 2020 U.S. Open? The will likely depend on the Spaniard’s ability to stay out of the rough off the tee.

Dustin Johnson (+850)

There’s not a better player in the world than Johnson right now. DJ has never played a tournament at Winged Foot, but that shouldn’t matter as his skillset matches up well here. I’d personally be surprised if Johnson isn’t in contention on Sunday.
