Long story short, the broadcasting team of Booger McFarland and Joe Tessitore calling Monday Night Football games in 2019 didn’t exactly work out as ESPN had hoped.

Not surprisingly, reports have begun surfacing that ESPN is looking to make a change at both the color commentator and play-by-play roles for the 2020 season. The oddsmakers have taken note and released odds on the most likely candidates to be in the MNF broadcast booth next fall.

Here’s what they came up with.

Odds as of January 13, 2019.

Pat McAfee (+450)

When it comes to pure entertainment value, McAfee might be the best option out there for ESPN (don’t be fooled, he knows his football, too).

Since abruptly retiring from the NFL in 2017, McAfee has become a sports media sensation. He isn’t as well known as the next two guys on the list of favorites, but in my opinion, this would be a slam dunk hire for ESPN.

Peyton Manning (+450)

Networks have been chomping at the bit to get Manning in their respective broadcast booths ever since he hung up his cleats in the spring of 2016. And it’s easy to see why.

In practically every appearance, including on his show Peyton’s Places on ESPN+, Manning has provided must-see TV.

In this scenario, ESPN would not only be getting access to Manning’s wit and personality, they would also be giving their viewers access to arguably the greatest football mind to ever step foot on planet earth.

Tony Romo (+185)

Romo’s contract with CBS is set to expire after the NFL Playoffs, and reports have surfaced that ESPN is prepping to make the former Dallas Cowboys signal caller a massive offer (upwards of $10-14 million per year) to join their broadcast team — presumably to do the color commentary on MNF.

CBS would like to keep Romo paired with Jim Nantz as their No. 1 broadcast team, but they will have to pony up some serious cash to do so.

Time will tell how this situation plays out, but as of today, Romo is the odds-on favorite to be in the Monday Night Football booth for Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season.

Others to watch:

  • Dan Orlovsky (+900)
  • Kurt Warner (+900)
  • Matt Hasselbeck (+950)
  • Greg Olsen (+1000)
  • Ian Eagle (+1800)
  • Kevin Burkhardt (+1800)
  • Steve Levy (+1800)
  • Larry Fitzgerald (+2000)
  • Drew Brees (+2500)
  • Philip Rivers (+2500)
  • Chris Fowler (+2500)
  • Kirk Herbstreit (+2500)

Note: Odds state that play-by-play announcer and color commentator count towards the wager.
